We love biodegradable natural fibers as building material for accent furniture. Among many natural fibers, jute, sea grass, water hyacinth and wheat straw are our favorite. These plants are sustainable, fast growing easily cultivated crop with beautiful natural texture and its flexible and resilient fibers could be woven into all kinds of artistic patterns.
Clean: Never drench your natural fiber, as they absorb water quickly and could lead to permanent damage or stain if not blot clean immediately. Regular dust clean with a duster or dry soft cloth is recommended.
Protect: Keep away from moist. A small dose of fabric protectors could help prevent fibers from shedding prematurely, repel water to an extent and avoid growth of molds or unpleasant odor. Please do not use harsh chemical or over-apply protectors so that it does not discolor or stain the surface.
Quick fix: Some natural fibers like jute do shred and some such as sea grass don’t. The loosen fiber could be an allergen so do not choose a jute product if you have asthma or many allergies, choose sea grass instead. Natural fibers tend to develop a moldy smell if they are in moisty environment for too long. Dry baking soda is a perfect absorber, simply sprinkle some on the fiber and dust it off after an hour of so. Another simple method to remove odor is to leave it under the sun until all of the humidity has evaporated.
